About the norm for the time being really. Had a few clear recently with a very long time in the process and adjudication. But they cleared. And we are onboarding them.

Steve

Curious, how long is a long time to you? I’m coming up on 33 months for an IC staff position, six months post poly/psych, which is a much longer road than I was expecting. Do agencies ever just let applicants die on the vine and not make a clearance decision?

Each agency is different. Are you counting time from turning in the SF86? I am seeing a lot of delay getting the BI to open. Waiting 6 months past Poly isn’t unusual. Waits in adjudication (where everything is weighed, judgement passed) of up to 6 and 8 months is normal right now. Post poly, there are several levels of reviews there before moving to adjudication as well. You will get notified eventually of the outcome. Sometimes they call and ask for more info or clarification. If you know there are no criminal issues, drug issues, or credit issues, and bare minimum of foreign contacts…you should be okay. You are in the best seat to know if any aspect of those areas was questionable. If a person has extensive foreign contacts or travel each must be scoped and looked at, or if their financial history is terrible they need determine the circumstances, etc.

I have seen where agencies “sit” on a submission, some as long as a year before submitting the investigation to us. A year is rare, but i have seen shorter time frames even recently.

@Amberbunny2 Hi, quick question regarding a clearance transfer… had a secret favorably adjudicated but the contractor had no openings for me after several months… if I take another job offer, will the clearance be rescinded?

If you seek another cleared position, they can cross over the clearance if you apply within agencies using the same repository (JPASS etc). If you try going to State, or the current clearance is in State’s hands…it is difficult getting them to play nice in the sandbox. Technically the clearance is always with the position, never the person. It is just shorthand to say “I’m cleared.” None of us are “cleared,” we possess clearance eligibility. That means we had a BI, and are assigned to a cleared position. Sounds like splitting hairs but if it all worked as it is intended the system would be quadruple clogged with closing out clearances once a person moves to a different office or position. Most companies maintain the clearance and just work the person on uncleared stuff. In your case they likely submitted several, first one to clear got the position.

Thank you for this information…Both positions are DoD Federal, do you think it is likely that I will need to start from scratch in the clearance process if I accept the new position?

Very insightful and I would like to thank you for spending time in educating all of us.
My eQuip was finalized Aug. 20, 2019, all interviews were completed by Nov 2019, then I was sent for my CI interview in VA during Xmas 2019 and waiting on Secret Clearance for a very much needed language but this is nerve wracking of course. My question is, you guessed it, how much longer does one usually have to wait when told the position is very much in need but since Xmas 2019 we have heard nothing from adjudications? I do have all my relatives being born overseas with mandatory army service but no direct family as a non-U.S. Citizen. Can this be the hold up?

Hi Amberbunny,

I posted a topic on the Security Clearance thread. Can you please take a look at my question when you have a moment? I see you’re very active one here.

All the best.
