Applying for job with previous suitability denial

Hello all,

Background- Current DOD employee with Secret/Tier 1 seeking a Tier 3

Sep 23 - submitted a SF86 for a in- house job that required a Tier 3 for Non-critical Sensitive/Moderate Risk

  • Admitted to multiple instances of MJ use within the year of applying, while holding a clearance

Nov 23 - TJO was withdrawn due to not meeting suitability qualifications

Jan 24 - Issued notification of 2-week suspension as a result of MJ admission in SF86

Apr 24 - Completed 2-week suspension

A new position has opened up in my office requiring a Tier 3. It’s been over a year since I used MJ, completed my suspension, have been actively seeing a therapist to address the issues that triggered desire to use MJ.

Despite being within the 7-year period of drug use, would it be worth it to apply for this new position since a year+ has passed? How long will last year’s suitability denial stay on my record?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

They still take that VERY seriously. I don’t know if 1 year will suffice. You might need to do some sort of rehab or psych eval to help mitigate.
