Approval process for lower/different clearance?

Hi all!

I have a current TS/SCI for work with the DoD but I am on the job market and have been offered a position requiring a lower clearance level working for Homeland Security.

My question is……what will I have to do in order to get clearance for the new role? Does this require that I go through the SF-86 process again? Is there any paperwork involved (if not a SF-86)? The DoD => Homeland Security move is throwing me for a loop.

Depending on the level of clearance you may have to submit an SF 85. A ‘lower clearance’ could be anything from a Secret on down to a public trust.
