Did anyone got a call from the investigator for the interview who applied for secret around May 2016 time frame?
Submitted sf86 1st week of June and have not received a call yet, nor have any of my references been contacted.
SF 86 submitted August 23rd 2016
Subject interview October 27th 2016.
Silence since then.
Background:
Retired Army Nov 2013. I worked as an Independent truck driver from 2013 to 206 hauling hotshot loads with a dodge ram 3500 and a 50ft trailer.
I have a brother that currently works as a GS13 DAC (department of the Army civilian) in a conflict zone and he told me of some openings with a company that is out there on the LOGCAP (May 2016)
My timeline:
Interviewed for a position 13 June 2016 (Telephonic interview with 4 people; 2 were state side the other 2 were in a conflict zone)
Job offered on 21 June2016 (Secret clearance is required)
eQuip submitted on 27 June 2016
Investigation opened on 01 Sept 2016
07 Sept 2016 Previous employer contacted me regarding a letter and some forms he received from the investigating agency asking him to fill the forms out and return them in the enclosed preaddressed/stamped envelop

02 Mar 2017 Got a phone call from my Project Manager (PM). He told me congrats your clearance has been granted. He further stated that he is uncertain as to why I was not grated a Interim but no matter because you have a clearance.
The job I had originally accepted was no longer available but he offered me another position in a different conflict zone which I accepted.
I was never contacted by OPM or anyone for that matter after I submitted the eQuip. It just happened. I will say that during my service I had 3 Secret clearances that were basically continuous in that every ten years I had the do the periodic reinvestigation process so they never really expired so to speak…, until I retired and even then the clearance was just inactive.
By far this investigation has taken the longest to obtain than any of the previous three. So hang in there and good luck.
Oh and by the way…, if you think that I have a spotless past…, guess again. Just remember to list everything and explain fully everything you can to mitigate any negative outcomes
Good morning everyone!
Here is my personal experience:
Got an offer late December for a contracting job (domestic) with DoS that requires a moderate risk public trust. My eqip was initiated in Jan so questionnaire and prints were submitted Jan 11. So far, no word from anyone. I recently checked with all the references and no one got a call, no credit has been pulled.
It’s hard to believe that a moderate risk takes that long. I worked not too long ago as a foreign service national (US Embassy) abroad. My investigation should be fairly easy to complete, but I assume that my file has not been assigned to an investigator? Please give me some thoughts on this type of clearance. Got clean criminal history, no credit issues and DoS already certified me in the past as a US Embassy employee.
Have a great day and thanks in advance for your input.
Everything is incredibly slow these days. I am not personally familiar with moderate risk public trust or what “tier” of investigation that is but the whole thing is a mess. If it were a direct hire State job, I’d say at least you are not in the big mess that is OPM investigations these days. But I’m pretty sure that State Dept contractors are in fact handled by OPM, and so to some extent it is in the same queue as all the other investigations, as I do not believe they have dedicated investigators for certain tiers.
Its a big hot mess. Hang in there. Hopefully your potential employer understands it could take a while. Hopefully I’m wrong and you get the start date quickly!
Thanks sbusquirrel. In the good old days, those would only take 2-3 weeks, but of course, this was when we hired directly for DoS, now… there is a possibility that aside from the current backlog, contractors would have to go under a different route and that might take longer than what we call ‘normal’.
Thanks again!
I can recall when folks would accept a contractor job offer and they’d have their interim secret after a week on the job, two weeks tops. I recently read about someone getting an ‘interim’ after eight months. What’s the point?
Submitted my eQip on November 1st and still waiting for my interim. Not sure if I should wait any longer or find a different job. All my friends who graduated with me are working while I’m stuck at home. Waiting sucks!
I would just find another job offer in the meantime, I am in the same boat and my friends are all working except I submitted my eQip in May and not November. I’ve held off job searching because I had hope that the clearance will come… don’t fall into my situation. My loan grace period is over this month and still no clearance = no income.
Did you have interim?
No, did you receive interim? My status in Jpas is “pending” so that probably means eligibility pending = interim denied.
No. I’m still waiting for my interim. I called my security office and they
said current wait is about 5 months for interim. It’s been 4 months already
so I hope I’ll get my interim soon . Good luck on your secret clearance!
Wow congrats!! nice to hear a positive ending for once here
They should be able to tell you when an interim is denied, which means you’ll still have to go through the whole process.
I called the NBIB to inquire on my TS investigation and also ask why an investigator hasn’t contacted me. My investigation was opened mid-October and I assumed the interview would be one of the first steps in the process. I was told by NBIB that the interview would be towards the end of the process. Is this correct? I see many posts showing the interview early in the process.
Tends to just happen when it happens. In reality there’s no procedural order of events for field work.
I submitted my contractor TS/sci mid June and still have not been contacted for an interview. None of my contacts have been contacted yet and my credit was pulled at the end of August.
Find another job. In all honesty, I’d treat it as though you don’t even have that job offer. That’s at least what I would do differently if I could go back and do it all again. Had an interview the other day where they’re seeing 1-2 years for secret. When I was first filling out my eQIP, I was reading forums thinking all of these long waits were just outliers and that I would be ok myself. Apparently they are the norm, or I just have really bad luck. Whatever average wait times your FSO tells you is probably your absolute best case scenario. Every month I call them, they raise their average wait time by a month.
Obviously keep that one in your back pocket. When you finally get your clearance, you’ll just have to treat it as a job offer and decide whether to leave for it.
Whatever you do, don’t throw away 10 months of your career (at its most crucial time assuming you are a recent graduate) working part time jobs like I did. Finally started looking for another career job after 8 months and got one in the private sector where I’m supposed to start in 2 weeks. Will just have to make a decision if/when I finally get the clearance.
As I said in one of my earlier posts, sorry if this across as mopey, just don’t want others to make the same mistakes I did. You simply cant afford to pay student loans working part time job wages
Congrats! I assume your military background may have helped speed things up.
Did you never get an update saying your investigation closed and that your case went into adjudication, or was your adjudication just that quick?
