Are You Experiencing Security Clearance Processing Delays?

I don’t want to explain my long drawn out story but I turned in my re-explaination package in December to be adjudicated and my FSO hasn’t gotten back to me about any of the status. So I’m guessing months maybe up to 6 Months. I don’t know I’m guessing.

Hey all, I have an update on my timeline:

eQIP submitted March 2017
credit pulled July 2017
interim denied somewhere between then and October 2017
Call from investigator February 2018

Now the only thing is the investigator was at the worksite location (otherside of the country from me). She said she would pass me off to someone in Maryland (D.C.?) and that I’d be hearing from another investigator soon. Anyone have any idea how long that might take?

That depends on your location and how far along your case has been completed to date. Unfortunately, this is a very common error - people list that their job location is at the corporate offices or where the bulk of the people work.

For anyone reading this post before submitting their eQIP - job location means - where will the investigator be able to walk up to the address and find you. in NBIB - the bulk of us are telecommuters - our job location is our home. And that is where the Subject interview will be scheduled.

It took two weeks to transfer from the DC area to my home state. Its really a pain to wait.

Is there something that can be done. I had to list the company in the DC area that is sponsoring me for my clearance but I live in a different state. I wrote on my SF86 my home address. You would think they would fix this to reduce redundancy.

Hi everyone, new to the blog. I see that im not the only one who is experiencing a ridiculous wait. I originally submitted my equip for a re-investigation back in June 2016 and as of today I am still waiting. To be specific I submitted originally in Feb 16 but they had me redo the sf-86 form. I Stumbled across this blog while researching wait times. At this point I havent had my credit pulled, or any other contact whatsoever. The employer can only tell me that Im still under investigation. I have written emails to congressman as well and still to this date nothing. This is beyond frustrating! Is this the norm or what?

Initial investigations are a mess. Periodic Reinvestigations are a hot sticky mess.

For TS/SCI

December 2016: COE Accepted
January 2017: SF-86 Submitted
February 2017: Medical & Psychological Examination
March 2017: Credit Check
April 2017: Interview with BI. References Contacted.
December 2017: Polygraph

HR rep is pretty responsive and as of today, my process is “ongoing”.

Approaching 400 days.

A computer schedules your Subject interview. Employers should know better than to have you list working for them when you haven’t started yet. They should also know that you can list the employer - where your employment record is kept - and where you are working - your physical job location.

Asking the system to try and guess if you are at your job location, your school, or your listed residence is also asking the system to delay starting your background investigation.

And yes, I have a lot of amusing (and some sad) stories where I looked at a case and couldn’t tell from the case papers if you were in California, Nevada, or Texas because the case papers claimed you worked, we lived and went to school in all three places. A human, me, has to call to try and answer the question “where’s the Subject?”

@backgdinvestigator, one thing I don’t get it is why doesn’t the system or NBIB go by the person’s residence first rather than the place of employment? Folks are more likely to stay at their residence longer than their employer. This is especially true in the age of security clearance backlog.

Which agency or department? IC?

It is with the intelligence community.

You tried to contact your congressman?

I turned mine in on November 2015 and October 2017 got a letter to explain several Financial situations…turned that in and Dec 2017 to follow up on the first one on the one in October. I don’t know if it’s been adjudcated yet…waiting

I have NOT contacted my congressman nor senator.

Because we are not allowed to do your subject interview at your residence. The employer is required to allow you work time to complete the Subject interview. Also, most people work during the day - the time when you and the investigator are available.

Take the DC area - you might live in Maryland and work in DC. Those are two different teams (actually several different teams) - so the choice is made to use the job location you declare as the interview location/contact.

Krazyk78 - I know you advocate contacting your congressman for any delay - I’ve seen cases with the congressional inquiry annotation. The process is not magically sped up - but the case is reviewed for holdups. ALL of the congressional inquiry cases I have seen always have developed issues, meaning the Subject kinda forgot to tell NBIB about the alcohol arrest(s), former spouse, residences in other states, and a common one - the employment where the Subject was fired.

I figure its worth a shot even if its 1% it would boost things up. From my understanding is their is no expedite on the adjudication part right? My clearance is going to go through DOD after NBIB gets done with their BI.

I think its worth a shot even if they cannot. For me this has been a blessing. My Senator was able to get my clearance to be expedited.

Timeline
November Contacted my Senator
December A NBIB agent reaches out to me and gets redirected
January Interview.

I am glad it worked out for you. Did you list your correct job location on your application? That minor detail alone could speed up a lot of the process.

Another detail that companies and Agencies don’t admit - they are often the reason your case is taking so long. Agencies “hang on” to cases before submitting them for investigation. I’ve heard this practice involves funding or manning issues, I don’t know for fact. I can say that I have seen cases where there is a significant gap between the signature date and the submission date.Meaning the date the Subject “signed” their release and the eQIP acceptance date.

There is an expedite process but the process is initiated by your Agency when the case is accepted. Those cases float to the front.

This is not a simple process of checking boxes and processing a few sheets of paper. Just last night, at 6PM, i had another case “blow up” from a knowledgeable source about my Subject’s character. I now have to chase down more sources to confirm or clarify the developed behaviors.
