I called OPM to inquire about the status of my BI. I was surprised to learn that they cannot find my name in the system. Does anyone know what’s going on? I submitted my SF86 on April 18. It’s with one of the IC agencies.
If this is for a direct-hire government employee position, then OPM is not involved. None of the IC agencies use OPM for background investigations for direct hire employees. Some do use them for contractors. Military assigned to those agencies also go through OPM.

I believe they have their own system as they do not trust any of the other systems…and one agency within that world never takes the word of a another agency in that world…like a small turf war. Each insists only their system is secure.
