I started at a large DoD contractor two months ago with an interim Secret clearance. My full investigation is still ongoing and has not yet been adjudicated.
Yesterday, I received an offer from another, larger DoD contractor: over 20% higher compensation and substantially better benefits. They say they can transfer my interim Secret clearance to their company without interrupting my interim status.
Has anyone gone through this? Is that generally accurate? I’m concerned that changing employers mid-investigation could cause me to lose interim eligibility-and potentially put both jobs at risk.
Any insight would be appreciated.
This is from a few years ago but it is one data point: I used to work at a contractor that required final clearance (something about the customer that sponsored our secure areas). Anyway a young guy quit before he got cleared and was able to go to work at another contractor based on his ELIGIBILITY for an interim. So even though we could not do anything with an interim clearance, he was granted one, and the other company picked it up.
So try to talk to the security office at the new place and see what they say.
Not sure about contractors or the actual contract, but they cant be transferred between agencies. Also, if it is the same contract, or even close, it’s considered “poaching” and that is not allowed. You need to check with security because you can lose everything if that is the case.
Both are DoD contractors, so I wouldn’t be transferring agencies. As far as conflict of interest goes, I disclosed my current program and nature of work early on - does not appear to be a problem.
