Denied Security Clearance Eligibility

Hello and thank you in advance for any help you can offer.

I recently applied for an IT position with CACI that required the ability to obtain a top-secret clearance. Having served in the US Navy, I had a secret clearance less than 10 years ago, so I did not think there would be any issues with re-obtaining one.

I found out that when CACI checked to see if I was eligible for a security clearance, I was denied. The recruiter told me that I was ‘high risk’ and they could not provide any further details. Subsequently, I was denied the position.

Looking up the requirements to obtain a clearance, I realized everything in my past had stayed the same, and nothing would prevent me from re-obtaining one other than marrying my wife, who is Ukrainian. She was born in Ukraine and lived there till she was 8 years old. Then, she became a US citizen and has been in the US since.

I believe this is preventing me from re-obtaining a clearance, and I would like to know my options to become eligible for a security clearance. Any insight you can offer would be appreciated. Thanks

It sounds like the CACI personnel security folks did a “pre-screen” on your application. If you ask me, their determination of “high risk” means they figured your case might take a long time and they just didn’t want to wait for you to clear.

Try someplace else and soon you will find another company that is willing to work with you.

Spot on. Might not get an SCI clearance, or it takes 3 plus years. But dont worry about pre screen. It is not a denial. Be honest on equip. The right company will hire you.
