Electronic Case Notes

I hear CACI is going to electronic case notes in the near future. I haven’t heard Peraton is making this switch. Is this a DCSA directive?

if so, this is the end of field work in the field as we know it. From what I’ve read this is a steep learning curve and appears to be a nightmare scenario for Investigators to have to work cases in this manner.

This is starting to make a lot of sense. My BI was never initiated after my COE. Wonder if these changes have something to do with it..

I feel like they have been discussing electronic case notes for nearly the 10 years I’ve been doing this job.

CACI has had the option of using them for a long time. No one I talk to ever uses them and it remains optional at this time.

Remember Dragon? Apparently a big flop that never rolled out 10 or so years ago.

If this was even remotely viable Peraton would be the first to use it. I’ve worked for all of them and Peraton is the IT, new technology, king and would already be using if it worked. Caci, no way they could pull it off due to tech, even if they tried, no way.

It is remotely possible and true. Heard it firsthand this week via an official memo and email.

Back in 2014, I would have never guessed we would all be conducting interviews telephonically and via VTC but here we are…

If you don’t think it’s possible or forthcoming for electronic case notes and mass automation with this work than you also didn’t see VTC/telephone work coming back then either.

CACI implemented electronic case notes last year - they’re not mandatory but some prefer them and some don’t. As far as I know DCSA isn’t using electronic case notes, and I haven’t heard from anyone at Peraton that they’re planning to implement them too. I wouldn’t say it’s a learning curve but rather working smarter not harder. Most can type faster than they can write, and less time manifesting at the end of the month.

I use Dragon and know a lot of others that do too - it’s been out for a while.

Ask any CACI investigator or subcontractor of CACI - electronic case notes came out in 2024 for them, they’re ahead of the game on that.

Just curios…what company authorized Dragon?

I asked my previous job about the status of my clearance and they said to contact my current employer. I don’t have a cleared one. They said you will need to contact your current employer to get that information. My records indicate that you left the company back in 2023 and therefore I legally cannot process your request. So is it really illegal?

Not sure I’m following. Who is the sponsoring agency of your clearance? That’s who you ask.

USIS talked about electronic notes in 2010.

It was that company I left in 2023 that was the last sponser of my clearance. That’s who the sponsering agency was

I know PERATON has had pilot programs with electronic case notes for awhile. I swear they mention once a year that it will available to all investigators soon.

The “big company” authorized DRAGON software about 2018. It is an excellent tool. Doesn’t replace hand-typing completely but it is a useful tool that makes typing faster.

I am DCSA and I use e-files all the time. Started around the time of Covid. I don’t print docs needlessly. In fact, we have to annotate our paper case files if there are efiles or not.

I’ve been using electronic notes since they rolled out in 2024. I hated them at first but change is hard. They are a huge time saver during the interview and for writing reports. I don’t love lugging my laptop around but that hasn’t been much of a problem since in person interviews are becoming rare.

Just so I understand, are you using e-files for documents or for electronic note/notetaking (Subject/Source interview)?
