Extended Hiring Freeze - Pulse Check

To the surprise of no one, the executive hiring freeze has been extended. Still possible that things could change on the DoD side but I wouldn’t hold my breath

I admit I was hopeful that it would not be extended, but this does not surprise me. Since it has been extended to October 2025, which would put it past the fiscal year, maybe the hiring freeze might be lifted.

Has anyone heard anything about certain job roles being exempted? I heard something from some people who know some people who may or may not know anything. But their job site still says hiring freeze and there are no positions listed.

I think the best path for getting hired by the government right now is joining the military. The DOD budget is about to bloat up considerably.

Just saw something about growing the active duty end strength.

I don’t think the overall DoD budget is going to grow. Some areas will expand but others will be cut.

At least I hope so… there’s a lot of bloat out there but you need to dig into the mess to really root it out. The devil is in the details, as they say (or as they used to say)

I know some of the agencies deferred their interns from summer 2025 until summer 2026 so they might not be hiring this year

It sounds like a ton of COEs were rescinded this morning from the CIA.

I would be interested to hear why you don’t think DOD budget will grow when the Pentagon’s budge is reaching 1 Trillion for the first time this year. I think the military bloat is only going to get bigger over the next few years.

Will the DoD budget grow? I dont know. Some areas will grow but others will stay flat or shrink.

I’m worried that any funding cuts will quickly get reallocated to other programs.

Will the DoD budget grow?

I haven’t checked in a few weeks but from my recollection the DOD budget has grown a bit ala “ship building” and something else similar-building…
I don’t recall but this tells me contracts and the other half-dozen related spending it takes to build another sub or air craft carrier was a heavy reason (and I believe has been for a few years) why the defense budget has been pretty hefty lately.

New job openings have been posted today for NSA…

I just checked earlier today and saw the “Hiring Freeze” banner is still there. But there are four open positions (three of which are entry-level) and the banner is on the top of the page!

I had heard a couple weeks back that some positions might be exempted from the freeze. So maybe even if there’s a “hiring freeze” there may not be an “interviewing freeze.”

Golden Dome is going to be a massive bloat. The Defense Contractors are foaming at the mouth.

The NSA job portal banner is now updated to say “NSA has received approval from the Department of Defense to hire for specific critical positions during the hiring freeze, per DOD memorandum ‘Immediate Civilian Hiring Freeze for Alignment with National Defense Priorities’ dated 28 February.”

I see two job listings for Language Analysts today, including one for “Arabic, Somali, Hausa w/Kanuri”

This is one of the top priorities? “Would you like some Kanuri with your Hausa”"

Received an email from MD HR today, identical email to the one I got before offer was rescinded (updated info/resume, preferred EOD, etc). Looks like they are starting to onboard. This is for an analyst position.

Your offer was rescinded and reinstated?

I guess that’s the word I would use. They said final offer would come next week after updated resume was sent and start date was chosen.

I’m assuming you had a prior FJO before it was rescinded?

It’s baffling how much of a mess every IC agency has handled this….

Yes, had FJO with EOD in early May that was rescinded in March.
