Ghosted at the very end of processing

After reading a handful of peoples’ experience with the clearance process, I thought I would ask here to get some answers to what happened with mine. I applied and started interviewing/processing in the beginning of 2024. Three letter agency. I had my poly later that year and the next step was to be assigned an investigator to begin the background check. After more filling out even more forms and talking to various people, I got fingerprinted and was told I would hear about the decision in a month.

A month and a half goes by and I decide to call them at the end of the year to see if I had missed something because I hadn’t heard back. They rushed to say I wasn’t being considered anymore and they couldn’t tell me the reason why but quickly said ‘we encourage you to apply again in the future.’ I did not receive any type of letter (SOR) or notification like I’ve heard other people get. If something on my record was grounds for not being considered anymore, I feel like they wouldn’t have kept going through the application process.

Just confused because I’m not sure if this was a clearance denial, job denial, or both. What was the reason? It also sounded like I was maybe able to apply in the future? What’s to say this exact scenario doesn’t happen again? I believe I was 99% of the way there. Also not sure if this had something to do with the current administration getting ready to cut costs. Weird because the whole thing took over a year. I’ve sent this to FOIA but I doubt I’ll ever hear from them.

Has anyone else had a similar experience?

I’m in similar boat trying to get the same answers. It could be a multitude of things not even your fault. If you have an FSO I would cross reference your clearance status with them.

I have not had that experience but from my knowledge being told to come back later has something to do with a suitability denial or the position was filled by another candidate or got deleted all together.
