Hi I have to fill out an SF86 for a state dept position requiring a TS/SCI clearance. Not sure how to address part time/occasional

jobs I had where I worked in peoples homes (nanny/house cleaner/party set up) and also at a restaurant? I worked for cash and didn’t claim on my taxes. I worked sporadically at 2 places for the past 3 years (one during July/aug) the other was a gig in a restaurant that was about once a week for 18 mos. The restaurant one closed over covid so not sure how to address that either. Prior to this employment I worked at same company for 23 years.

Hmm well the not declaring income part might be a problem… Anyway at the very least you will need to show continuous employment history while also accounting for any periods of unemployment by providing at least one reference who can verify that you were unemployed.

Depending on your income during that time you may not have been required to file a tax return but not declaring earned income (even small amounts for cash) is the sort of thing that can lead to additional scrutiny.

should I amend my taxes prior to filling out the SF86? will that satisfy that issue?

Can’t hurt but who knows. One thing they have very little tolerance for is income tax discrepancies.

Def refile taxes. Then it is on the federal record. Then no fear of covering it. Its a downright pain in the arse listing overlapping positions and part time or intermittant work. Harder still to make sure no gaps by the security team.
