The investigator said she was going to contact certain references within a week and then crickets. No one had heard anything. Is this a normal thing?
She probably has many items on her caseload and is trying to get to them. You are not her only investigation and our supervisors will tell us to get certain item done before starting on others. If she said she was going to contact them then she will. Be patient, I’m sure she is overworked and underpaid.
Sometimes an investigator will develop their own contacts and never speak to the ones you listed on the form.
For sure and that makes sense but why cause chaos by telling you they will contact a few specific people and say you should let them know to look out for a call and then…nothing
I’m telling you, crap came up and she got busy. I’ll do the same thing, I don’t usually limit it to one week, I’ll say the next week or two, because crap comes up that we have to take care of first. Be patient.
It’s all part of the game. Perhaps it was people the investigator thought needed to be interviewed but someone else in the investigator process decided it was not needed. The process is a human process and every human is different. Did it really cause “chaos”? You listed people as references so why would they be surprised about being contacted.
I kinda remember an investigator saying he was being pressured to wrap cases up quickly… then pressured to go back and get more info. Quickly.
I always start off with SUPER good intentions of calling all the sources within like 3 days of interviewing the Subject but then I get unexpected crap thrown at me and my supervisor will tell me different priorities and all of a sudden it is a week and a half later before I can call. That’s why I’ll say a week or two because unexpected things come up all the time.
