Job requiring updated sf86

So my clearance is still active and hasn’t expired yet. I have a ts and I still have SCI access and I’m also polygraphed so this job that I just applied for after months of being on the bench it’s asking for an updated sf86 so if this happens won’t I trigger a reinvestigation? They say it won’t but I’m afraid it will and I’m not even sure I want this job right now so I’m not even sure if I should go ahead and do it. And if I don’t would I just be will this come up on my next and then the next job that I apply for? And recruiter or the PM asks about it. Will they see something?? I think these clearances should come with some kind of guidebook because there’s a ton of questions I have. Any input would be helpful!

That is what the Continuous Vetting process is all about. You must submit an updated SF86 every 5 years. If there are no issues of concern then you continue enrollment in CV and PR is not done.

I don’t believe this is correct. The ultimate holder of the SF86 is he government agency for which the contracting company works for.
I have worked for multiple contractors with the same underlying government agency. I did not need a new SF86 each time I switched. I think Marko is on target. CV requires the SF86 to be updated with no fieldwork needed unless there is an issue.

You are on point with your statement naughtypetey. My initial T5 clearance was adjudicated by an IC agency, and then I was enrolled into CE when I was under DCSA for a part-time role. Just in the past few months, I had to fill out a new SF86 for CE enrollment renewal even though it’s been less than 5 years as I was crossing over to another IC agency. YMMV, but it’s common to submit updated SF86s for the purpose of CE enrollments/renewals as DCSA vs IC CE are totally different.

no it won’t. Could be that your SF86 is out of date (most likely). They could ask you to fill out a SF86-C, but it’s not unknown for a company/agency to ask for a full SF 86.

Think about it…it sounds like you were with a previous employer, may have had a period of unemployment in there, may have moved, had a change in relatives (births, deaths, etc) May have struck up a friendship with a young foreign national, may have gotten charged with distributing child porn…the list goes on an on.

I mean no offense, I’m stating extremes because well, this stuff happens.

Thanks all — this is helpful. My TS/SCI is active and I’m still sponsored, and I’ve previously crossed over between contractors without needing a new SF-86.

In this case, a new employer initiated an NBIS SF-86 along with financial/employment forms as part of onboarding, but security indicated it wasn’t tied to a reinvestigation.

I’m mainly trying to understand the process side: when an updated SF-86 is requested for a specific program while eligibility is active, is that typically just for suitability/CE purposes rather than a clearance renewal? And if someone decides not to proceed and never activates/submits it, does it simply expire without affecting their DISS record?
