Perspecta layoffs

They all say they care about their people. Then they look at the balance sheets and, BOOM, layoffs.

Companies only care about the bottom line.

Very true. Itā€™s business. Doesnā€™t matter how well you perform either so I donā€™t really bother trying to go above and beyond to hit high numbers.

SSDC - same stuff, different contractor

I hate to sound so cynical, but Iā€™ve heard the same thing at other contractors, only to find out months or years later that layoffs are happening.

They all say that to get people in the door.

Layoffs can be a terrifying thing for many people, no one likes waking up wondering if it will be their last day of work. Some people have the savings or means to survive a layoff, while others can be put in a bind pretty quickly, but it is what it is. Companies only care about the bottom line, money. That goes for any company in any industry. They will all do what needs to be done in order to keep their money on the positive side.

Either way itā€™s best to have a plan in place. As much as I enjoy this job (for the most part) and it would suck to lose it to a layoff, Iā€™ve still got a plan in place to keep me on my feet. Iā€™ve also been thinking of getting my PI license (my state requires one) as that would be handy to fall back on.

I know we all hear rumors and thatā€™s all we have to go on but your most recent post made me think of this:

My best friendā€™s sisterā€™s boyfriendā€™s brotherā€™s girlfriend heard from this guy who knows this kid whoā€™s going with a girl who saw Ferris pass-out at 31 Flavors last night. I guess itā€™s pretty serious.

Itā€™s a crap show out there with this industry.

I hestiated to say anything, but I DO know layoffs happened this week from 2 sources (direct and indirect). And thatā€™s enough to make sure people are aware so they can ask questions, and maybe think of other revenue streams if worried about job security. Never seem to me to be a ā€œcareerā€ as a contractor; only if you worked directly for OPM!

Yes, Perspecta is suffering from a lack of work, but it is not because there is a lack of cases. We have plenty of work at CACI and have been hiring investigators. NBIB changed the way they assign work earlier this year and Perspecta is now feeling the effects. NBIB used to assign work base on the capacity demonstrated by the contractor. This is why Perspecta made no attempts to retain experienced investigators, they just replaced them with new hires. At one point, Perspecta was training 100 new investigators at a time. Of course they did not have enough experienced investigators to conduct OJT, so they just let other level one investigators conduct the OJT. They did not have enough reviewers, so they also used level one investigators as reviewers. NBIB now grades the contractors based on quality and timeliness when determining who gets work. Perrspectaā€™s business model of quantity, not quality has finally caught up with them. I saw this coming and left Perspecta in May.

Well itā€™s no rumor that GDIT laid off 200 FIs and TLs this week.

I still have not heard of any other Perspecta layoffs since the round they did a little more than 2 weeks ago

I havenā€™t either. One of my neighbors is a BI for Perspecta and we talk shop regularly. She hasnā€™t mentioned any others.

Who has a meeting on Monday to explain layoffs? I didnā€™t get an invite to a meeting

If the layoffs are due in part to field oversaturation of F/T employees, would this possibly result in a heavier reliance on 1099 ICā€™s, with companies like 1 Force?

Hey everyone, Iā€™m Ken and Iā€™m a former Perspecta employee. Now Iā€™m at CACI. I saw how Perspecta was a meat grinder for inexperienced investigators and made the switch once my year was up both to get paid more and to get on board with an org that has staying power.

Weā€™re still hiring experienced investigators at CACI. Weā€™re looking to onboard 60 investigators monthly with no sign of slowing down. Iā€™m told weā€™re #1 on the NBIB contract and weā€™ve just landed several other investigations contracts outside of NBIB. Anybody who got laid off and still wants to do this job could see about working with CACI. Iā€™d be happy to refer people and fast track the application.

That 60 hiring thing is why gdit is laying off. This over saturation needs to stop! Retain your seasoned investigators. They are the ones who will make you money.

I agree, 60 a month sounds like an invitation to problems. Why companies canā€™t value their senior investigators is beyond me; instead, they want cheap labor.

I work for GDIT right now and have been lucky to have not been apart of the rifs. Itā€™s just scary I have been doing tdys since May Iā€™m currently on one now which is my last for the year. Iā€™m scared to go home since it hasnā€™t been any work. Smh Iā€™m just going to be searching for jobs. So many coworkers got laid off

Here is a fantastic article posted on 7/29/19 on the Federal News Network with a synopsis of what exactly is going on with the layoffs, etc. Hope this sheds some light on our recent experiences.

https://federalnewsnetwork.com/nbib-transfer-to-dod/2019/07/nbib-employees-get-official-offers-to-transfer-to-dods-security-clearance-agency/

That article doesnā€™t mention a single thing about layoffs
