Secret clearance question with new investigation

Hello!

I recieved my secret clearance in 2009. Worked until may of 2018.

I have been unemployed since (stay at home dad). In reading about the clearance online I found out that I have until May of this year before it goes inactive.

My question is - since it has been 10 years since my original clearance I am due for a investigation again. If I get hired before May and they start the investigation will that stop my clearance from going inactive in May?

I’m assuming the investigation will take 4-6 months.

Thank you for any help.

Scott

I believe that the answer to your question is “yes” . . . or “no” . . . The truth is that it will depend on the FSO at your new employer and the need to fill your position. I suspect that you will have a problem since your clearance expired LAST YEAR . . . but others here have seen them reactivated after several years at times.

Thank you for the reply. I have a job lined up that should be open in April. I guess I’ll see what ends up happening.
