I am only working on a public trust clearance. There was a discrepancy between how I thought I left a former position and what the former employer said. I had always thought they would treat it as a resignation. That was not the case. Without going into too much detail, it was a quit or we will fire you situation. I had always thought of it as a resignation, but that is not what they reported. Now, the agency would like me to explain the discrepancy. I really don’t know what to tell them. I didn’t mean to withhold information, I really thought they would just tell investigators that I resigned. My former job was not a government security clearance job. Any advice you can offer would be greatly appreciated because I am unsure what to tell them.
Section 12 of the form is pretty straightforward, as is the OF-306 regarding employment terminations. Only thing you can do is plead that you misunderstood and thought since they let you resign is why you did not disclose it.
