Hello everyone. I recently accepted a job offer for DHS. I am currently in the stages of getting my BI done. I sent my forms, and FPS noted to me that they will try to use my prior T3 investigation for reciprocity in this T2 job. Couple things I wanted to ask:
1.) I joined the military in 08/2019 and got out 08/2023. Do I have a chance at reciprocity since it’s been so long? are reciprocity considerations accounting for CE (not sure if that even applies to military members)? I had a Secret Clearance for my job in the military. Would they have said that they would try reciprocity if it was already too old to consider? Ballpark, think I got cleared around late 2019 to early 2020 so minimum 6 years. Reason I’m asking is if they deny my reciprocity (which I think is likely), they’ll require me to fill out a new SF-85p form and the timeline for employment gets pushed back quite a bit.
2.) I used weed 3 times. Smoked once, tried a THC pen, and ate 3 edibles. The most recent use was around Dec. 20th of 2025. Am I likely to be disqualified from this? The times I used MJ were before I received the job offer, and completely discontinued use after that. The records I have from using the THC pen and the edibles were a couple of texts between me and a friend. No record of the smoking. What am I supposed to put down for the date of the smoking? There are no records of that incident, which is why it’s so difficult to think of. Also, the times I used were after I left the military, had a clean SF-86 prior to. I have no criminal record regarding the drug use.
3.) I used the THC pen about 1 month after I got out of the military, is that technically considered using while cleared? If so, do I/should have I disclosed that with my FSO?
Thanks all for your help. I’m pretty quick with replies so any questions, I’ll probably get back to immediately.
