Tax Question

Over the past few years, I have worked for myself on various information technology contracting jobs. During these three years, I believe that I made approximately $2100 total. At the time, I was over 18 and in college. I asked my dad if I needed to report this income and he said no as I was under the minimum income requirement to file. However, while doing some research on the SF-86, I found this probably counts as self-employed and if you’re self-employed you have to file taxes to pay for Social Security and Medicare.

This was an honest mistake, will it affect my ability to obtain a TS clearance?

Not being a tax expert I cannot advise as to what you may or may not owe or should have paid, as long as you initiate the steps to resolve any discrepancy you may have it should not prevent anyone from being granted a clearance.
