The Consequences of Calling HR Out

Hello all,

I have a weird question centered around the personnel behind security clearances etc. I’ve been in a truly miserable security clearance process with a TLA and know there is a hiring pool waiting for me.

I want to get into the pool ASAP for obvious reasons.

I recently got an LOA which, among other things, gave me a favorable determination. Yay right? Onto the hiring pool? No.

The letter was set on Jan 11. HR insists I’m still in security. I eventually get in contact with my adjudicator who confirms security is done with me. I, through several emails, tell HR the situation. After the third email, they reply with the following:

‘However again with all due respect as far as we are concerned, you are still currently processing with security until we receive notification regarding the Final Security Eligibility Decision.‘

I talk to the adjudicator again and tell them this. They tell me hr is being ridiculous and they will initiate contact on the case.

My question is this, I know I’ve upset HR and am probably about to embarrass them. Can they rescind an offer out of spite?

I would give them time to communicate before reaching out to either HR or the Adjudicator again.

Of course they can. Whether or not it’s legal in your state or not is another question. Whatever they decide to do , if they rescind your offer they won’t say it’s “out of spite” they will find some other reason to justify the decision and then you have to decide how to proceed from there.

This doesn’t make a lot of sense. There is no reason for HR to hold you back from a job or rescind an offer they’ve already qualified you for without a very good reason (spite is not one of them). Why would they waste all that time and money qualifying you as a candidate, propose you to the client/hiring manager and get the job lined up, send you an offer, then blow you off? All that stuff costs a lot of money. They also lose money and get egg on their faces if they don’t place you at that job after all the trouble and money. Either there’s details missing or someone is misunderstanding something.

I would hope the HR department is more professional than that and if they are not, do you really want to work there? I’ve had Subjects that have really irritated and frustrated me but I did not let that affect the quality of the investigation or the way I wrote their report. I did my job professionally and was glad to push them on down the line and get them off my desk.
