Timeline 2023 Thread

Do linguists with languages rarely spoken in the US (think Chinese or Arabic) get through the processes faster?

Updated Timeline:

Apr 22: Submitted SF86 for SC
May 15: Interim Granted

No subject interview yet and waiting.

Not based on what I’ve heard or see. I think it is due to the foreign contact/foreign influence situation.

I also feel there are a lot of Chinese/mandarin linguist applicants (when I was chatting with them while waiting for my process). Not sure if they want to hire more of Mandarin speakers or just extend the offers to a lot of them due to higher suitability risks

But again, this is all based on my observation and reading on line plus some friends’ experiences (one person speaks multiple African languages including Arabic and she hasn’t been contacted for three years after her SF86)

Let’s just remain positive and keep looking! Nothing is set until that very first paycheck is deposited into the account!

Good point. Three years for native speakers (OR non-native speakers who studied in-country) to clear is not unusual.

The demand for Arabic speakers has dropped off considerably over the past couple years… meanwhile they can’t find enough Chinese linguists it seems.

Day 233 today for a secret. Investigation still open.

700+ days

I currently do not have a clearance.
I received a CJO for a STEM job at the NSA two years ago.

Jun 2021: Submitted SF86
Jul 2021: More info requested

Jun 2023: Today

I have had no SI, no psych, and no poly.
My recruiter said the delay is due to foreign connections.
I am still in security processing.

The information on the case papers is what’s used for inquiries. You certify that all the information on your car papers is correct. The onus is on you to provide accurate information.

April 17 2023: SF86 Submitted
April 24: More info requested
April 25: SF86 sent in

May 17: Contacted for interview, had already moved out of town so investigator assigned me a new investigator in my new city. Haven’t heard anything since. I know these things take time, but when should I start to worry?

Depends on where you are living now. If you moved to an area that has a shortage of investigators and a backlog of cases, it could be three to six months or even more until you are contacted for an interview. But worrying won’t help :grinning:

TS/SCI clearance

Nov 9 2022: Interview, CJO received
Jan 13 2022: SF86 submitted/approved
April 19 2022: Psych Eval/Polygraph (passed)

Went through this process in 2018 (passed everything) but was told the position was no longer available after 7 months. Therefore, this time, they only have to investigate the last 5 years (I’m 29 with a pretty clean slate). Last I heard from my recruiter, I was still in the “suitability processing” stage as of June 1. I’m hoping I’d hear something back around June/July. I thought I would enter adjudication soon after I passed the poly.

Keep in mind, if this is for a direct hire government position, HR may need a couple more weeks to finish their end of the process after security finishes. So who knows, maybe you have finished adjudication.

And of course there’s the 19th holiday, and the upcoming holiday, and vacations, etc. to slow things down just a wee bit more.

I’m going through the process now. Can you tell what the timeline was for your top secret interim?

My timeline so far(hasnt been going well):

-Aug 2022: CJO
-Oct 2022: Submitted SF86 in
-Jun 2023 Have not heard back from anyone nor was a credit check pulled or a phone call from an investigator

Throughout the months a recruiter has been reaching out periodically every 3-4 months saying im still in process and that everything should still be moving along as it should be. This is also for a TS/SCI clearance

Guys, my timeline submitted in March 2023, for T5-SSBI with poly and pysch as well.
for a 3 letter intelligence agency.
Have not heard back anything yet apart from the credit pull on the account, no interview nothing.
Is there a way to ask my recruiter to atleast check if there is any progress on my file?
CESP was approved a month later.
I already have an active secret clearance, awaiting for the next set of instructions.
