Timeline 2023 Thread

I think it was in a Clearancejobs YouTube video where she mentioned a timeline clarification/correction from days to “business days”.

Well, I’m still over the investigation timeline, but that gives me a better idea where I’m at. Thanks!

Yeah me too. I’m at about 9 months. But I had FS poly too (3times) so I’m sure that added a month or two. And also the Xmas season holidays took away two weeks.

Yikes. I’m about to start month 5 for a secret.

Good news to share this morning! TS/SCI, FS. No existing or past clearance.

January: applied, interview
February: CJO, SF-86
March: BI interview, references (at least 15 that I’m aware of)
May: poly 1
June: poly 2
July: poly 3, cleared!

Only real complication was a step-parent who was naturalized a few years back. I played phone tag with my investigator for about two weeks just wanting more and more information on that…

I’m certainly pleased with the speed here! Although I’m not confident that this is permanent (I do think that they recognize the position of the market and want to get people in before things heat back up…), it’s good nonetheless! Good luck to those still waiting!

That’s an amazing timeline! I’m really hoping my SCI access can finally get wrapped up.

I noticed your response and wanted to ask something.
I received a questionnaire form (PDF) to fill out about month and a half after submitting EQIP (Sf86) The questions were exactly the same as the ones in EQIP. But email was titled Additional Information so I responded the same information as it’s truthful as I did the first time.
How common is this? Mostly bc I haven’t had a interview with any investigator. My POC has been the same person who sent me the link to complete SF86.

Is this for a contractor job? Some companies have applicants fill out a form so they can do their own “pre-screen.” But you have already submitted the SF86 via eQIP. Maybe they are following up with something that should have been completed earlier?

May still be too soon to expect an interview. If this is for a secret clearance, there may not be an interview.

Nope, it’s a Direct Hire with DHS.
I was curious because it was the same exact questions in the EQIP but in a different email & PDF format.
Regardless, thank you so much for the response!

I’m at 288 days of waiting for my secret clearance. I just posted a question about on here though. Apparently 9 weeks ago, my investigation had closed but my agency is still waiting for DCSA to send my investigative file over so they can adjudicate. So, at this point, I am still not in adjudication. Anyone know if that type of delay is normal after my investigation closes? I’m in limbo between investigation closure and the start of adjudication.

February 2, 2023: Submitted SF86
July 1, 2023: More info requested
Currently awaiting final decision and a TS secret. :pensive:

I apologize if this is a repeat question. When does the investigation technically start? Does it start from the time you submit your SF86? When you meet with your investigator? Thanks.

I don’t know the actual start point, although DCSA is supposed to track how many days it takes an investigation to close. Just keep in mind that many steps, such as online checks of credit and criminal records, may be completed long before you meet with an investigator.

They’re going to start getting grumpy at mine. I’m on track to be the same as 2017 again.

In 2018 my investigation closed/completed on 8/16, and adjudication hadn’t started yet on 1/18/2019 when it was withdrawn. So, back then 6 months delay apparently wasn’t unusual.

Current secret just hit 155 days (85 business days give or take for investigation only so far) and it’s still open. Neither of my last two supervisors got their inv40’s and I gave up on my FSO ever replying and just called the security office. They forwarded the address corrections to VROC and requested a status last week. Hoping to hear something soon.

I’m at 311 days now and still waiting. Apparently, my agency (non-DoD) got with their “DCSA liaison” to see if they can get a status. But that was earlier this week so we’ll see what that brings.

Investigation Open July 5th 2022
Interview August 2022
“With the adjudicator, pending decision” as of September 8th 2023!
I get the business, I get the CoVID backlog, I get a lot of it. I do not understand this in the least. But it is what it is. I guess I would have to say, maybe they are so understaffed that it is simply just taking that long. But I am at 14 months…

My investigation finally closed and I got a Letter of Interrogatory. I obtained an attorney to help write the reply. Since my agency is small and does their own adjudications, it shouldn’t be much longer after I submit my reply.

My investigation finally closed! According to security, it’s been closed for over a month. I’m hoping this means it’s been sent to adjudications, but yay movement.

Edit: it was marked completed the day after it closed. Now the long wait.
