I have 10 years of experience as a federal contractor with a strong track record and low risk prior to recent events. In 2022, I faced severe charges that were resolved in 2024 as PBJ misdemeanors with a 5-year probation period.
Following this, my status was revoked at 1 agency, and another agency was denied at NOAA, with no official reason provided yet.
Given these circumstances, is it still possible to secure federal contractor positions? Do you have any advice on improving my chances or navigating this situation? I think I need to wait for 5 years of investigation period for tier 1, but would want to hear your advice. Thanks.
At a minimum there should be three years between the date you were denied to the time you should apply to any position that requires a background investigation. And even then it may still not be enough seeing as how you would still be on probation.
If you can’t get a CAC, you can’t work at NOAA (they use CAC for facility entry and computer access). You could try another agency since some have different CAC/PIV requirements, but it’s probably an uphill battle. Best of luck
You can reapply at agency who denied you after 1 yr. If you never got an SOR then it was probably a suitability denial rather than clearance. To that end, did you give them the paperwork that say you charges were downgraded?
Yes, as a father of two, I’m determined to find a job that allows me to regain stability and work towards getting back on track. Thank you for sharing your stories—they’re both inspiring and encouraging.
I am transitioning to the private sector and will no longer be pursuing positions that require clearance. In the meantime, I expect my probation to be completed, and I may reapply for federal positions where clearance is not required, should such opportunities arise. Thank you for your guidance!
For one fed, the notification states to apply after 2 years.
For another fed, no official notification was made assuming that suitability issue. So, to be safe, I can apply for CAC/PIV clearance after 2 years from now on? I just want to hear your advice.
