Very confusing situation

Hello,

I was selected as a Pickering fellow alternate and underwent the security clearance process and was granted the top secret security clearance, I’m now undergoing suitability review for the state department. To clarify, I did not actually receive the fellowship and the clearance was just in case I was moved up into that position. I took the FSOT and CFPT and am waiting for results, but I’m wondering if, should I get to the foreign service register, I will have to do another security clearance investigation or reinvestigation or, should I pass the suitability review, if I will just be cleared to work for state. Is there a certain point after which I would have to be investigated again? If I get in, would I have a reinvestigation 5 years after the first clearance was granted or 5 years of being on the job? Any insight would be appreciated, thanks.

Clearances go with the position, so since you did not receive the position, you were never granted a clearance. You can say you were “favorably adjudicated” (please folks correct me if I’m wrong here) to XX level.

In the past reinvestigations were every 5 to 7 years but most agencies are moving to continuous evaluation (CE) so that may be changing.

The rest of it you are severely overthinking, Does it matter if it’s 5 years from when the clearance was granted or when you start the position?
