Waiting for Secret Clearance

So I recently signed into an offer for a job I’m really excited for. It required I get standard secret clearance, and so I filled out the SF-86 and sent it in. A week later, I was told that I was going to be getting a full background check. This is fine and all, except my job offer gives me 90 days to obtain clearance. I’m worried that I’m not going to get clearance in time which would be devastating. While I have no real serious background other than very minor marijuana usage and one mental thing that happened 7 years ago, I’m on the younger side of things. However, one of my direct relatives has full secret clearance, and 2/3 of my “people who know you well" have some sort of clearance. I also filled out the form clearly and with sufficient information and detail. With the current state of things, should I be worried that I’ll miss the deadline or should I relax? I am really eager for this opportunity and I don’t want to miss out. Additionally, I know it’s pretty much out of my hands, but is there anything I can do to expedite things? Anything I should request of the security office I’m corresponding with? I want to make sure I cover my bases.

I personally would not want to work for a company that requires a clearance but seemingly has no knowledge of the clearance process. It’s not impossible, but they should know better. Also your family/friends/refererences having clearances has zero impact on your own investigation.

Either you misunderstood something or they are clueless. Expect a secret to take at least 6 months bare minimum. Maybe they said 90 days to initiate a BI?

I reviewed my letter. It says that I need to successfully complete a Secret security clearance investigation within 90 days of agreeing to the offer.
