I used to work military intelligence in the Army. I was a DoD contractor for a few years after that. My clearance lapsed in 2019 and I’m reapplying to the army and reclassify for my MOS.
The truth is, I don’t see me getting my security clearance back. I smoked weed somewhat frequently in 2022-2023.
Here is the kicker
I had an ex that I let take over my finances and he drove my credit into the ground leaving me with crippling debt. Here is the clincher. He is a top secret security clearance holder that I participated smoking weed with throughout 2022 and into 2023. He asked me to ship him and his coworkers marijuana to Iraq for him and his coworkers, which I stupidly did in 2022. He shared classified information, forged documents to his company, etc. He asked me to ship him drugs again in January of this year which I did not. Safe to say the relationship degraded quite quickly after that.
I first reported it to his boss, and the ex told me that he is still on the schedule to go back to Iraq. I reported it to OSI and the IG and they threw the investigation back to his company for “further review.” He works for Northrop and Grumman. I’m pretty sure the “further review” meant “you’re a jilted ex and we are covering this up.”
I’m trying to go back into the service to pick up the pieces of my life. I honestly don’t see me getting a clearance back, and honestly I don’t even know if I’m honorable enough to even hold one anymore. I’m going to be honest on my SF-86, but I’m guessing the chances are slim to none. Should I even be honest about it considering N&G is probably not even investigating it or taking it seriously?
