Yeah, get mad at me for thinking someone’s marital status shouldn’t affect their paycheck and not at the companies/agencies that created this mess.
I’m not mad at you. I don’t even know you. Not sure why you’re even commenting on a thread geared towards the hardships of 1099 employees when you are full-time with CACI. But I’ll stand by your lack of empathy for sure.
You don’t know me, but you know I have no empathy. Got it. Well have a good night and I hope your and everyone else’s workload improves regardless of marital status.
I know you have no empathy based on your responses. You literally couldn’t resist throwing in another rude comment. Just leave us 1099’s alone as you can’t relate to what we are going through right now.
Based on what are they saying three months and how can they be sure? What company is this?
Jump ships to where? Unless you are going out of the industry, isn’t everyone here saying the same thing, work is low on all contracts everywhere…
Completely understand most of us are feeling, frustration, stress and downright scared. Regardless of our heightened feelings, we have to use this platform as support and guidance not hurtle mean communications. Lets keep things civil here so this thread doesn’t get shut down. I am stressed and very scared as to what’s next. This page gives me a connection to others (you all).
Related: interesting Newsweek article out about DHS hires not being vetted. It would at least partially explain the lack of work there.
I was literally just thinking this the other day.
Wow - so why are all these contractors trying to hire Investigators for the DHS contract?
Probably for when the.interim expires.
What does that mean???
At the risk of spreading panic and fear (my intention is to actually provide awareness for everyone so they can make the best decision for themselves like I did a few years ago when I left this industry behind): I was talking to a former BI colleague of mine who jumped from the contractor world to the fed world a few years ago. She said they’ve been so busy they never stopped working through the shutdown (despite not getting paid). We live in an area that is constantly busy due to a large military and defense contractor presence, probably second busiest in the nation to DC, and she says the work has never slowed. Most of her cases are continuous evaluation RSIs. What is clear to me is that the feds might be “hogging” the work and not much is trickling down to the 1099ers because of this. These games are why I left the industry because I had had it. I wish everyone in this precarious position luck and would encourage you to look outside this business. The short term pain of unemployment and uncertainty will be worth the long term gain.
I’ve heard a couple reports from Fed FI’s saying they have been a busy as ever the last few months.
And the SAC in my area said they’ve been low on work. AND DCSA isn’t hiring.
Whatever. It’s almost ruined me financially, so I’ll probably get CV’d out of eligibility.
I don’t think they care about what this is doing to us financially. I’ve emailed my boss twice in the last two weeks and cannot even get a response.
Has your “boss” been taking extra days off lately? If so that person may be on the way out too.
no. she sends out emails. just doesn’t answer questions.
Nothing worse in the BI industry than an unresponsive CL or FM or what did they call them at CACI…FL?
The facts are that middle management doesn’t know anything. They simply relay information from senior management. And senior management knows more but rarely give any updates and they certainly don’t value the Background Investigator or reviewer and see us as necessary “cog in the wheel” but otherwise expendable and not a valuable resource even though the Investigator does 90% of the work and the Reviewer the remaining 10%.
The saying “a cog in the wheel” means being a small, often replaceable part of a much larger system, organization, or process — like a gear (cog) inside a big machine.
The cog in the wheel saying describes this industry

It’s not that they don’t care, it’s that these companies are in survival mode and they don’t have certainty on their own job/career. This is an industry shakeup on par with tech, auto industry and mortgage industries upheaval
