I’m sick. After 13 years of holding a secret clearance (first 8 as a ctr) and having a flawless reputation, i did something stupid and picked up a non-violent felony. I barely have a traffic violation. I immediately self-reported and have been regularly talking to my FSO. She is adamant that the whole-person-concept will void the chance of me losing my clearance. My job has opted not to discipline me. It’s been a few weeks and i’ve heard nothing from the Navy security personnel, or anyone else. FSO believes i’ll receive an SOR around end of year, we will fill it out, and that will be that. But i’m unable to rest on that. I’m uneasy. I’ve read through the discussions here and it doesn’t sound promising that it will be that quick and painless.
Consequences usually aren’t quick and painless, nor should they be. You will probably get the opportunity to explain the incident to an investigator. Be as forthcoming as possible. Convey the remorse that you show in this post. Be compliant with anything your security office requires. I don’t think anyone can provide you with a predictable outcome. Just go through the process and take the advice of the FSO.
There’s a problem here. If you are expecting an SOR, it’s not as simple as your FSO is stating. You won’t be able to work and will be let go from your current employment. It’s a very long process, I have one still going with CIA that is years old for incidents that were minor and were 10 yrs old. It’s not a fair process.
I am expecting an SOR, but i really don’t know enough to say i’ll get one. I made a mistake, so my instinct is to expect the worst. My SM said that i would probably get an SOR but that i would not be let go until a decision is made after submitting the SOR. She said this happened to her last year with some financial questions. And it may not be an SOR, it may be the investigator reaching out with some questions. All of it seems contradictory. Some people (in this forum) state that the process is 10 years old, while others say 2 years. A guy down the hall was 4 years. My SM answered some questions and that was that. It has been a month for me and noone has reached out. No investigator. No questions. I had a free consultation with an attorney who was surprised i wasn’t suspended the 1st week.
