Clearance Process Discontinued due to foreigh association

My clearance process got discontinued due to FOREIGN ASSOCIATION without an interview.

I have a brother and daughter with foreign nationalities. I wish to know if I should request an explanation or should I just let it go.

Your thoughts wilp be highly appreciated.

I suppose you could file a privacy act/freedom of information act request which might get you some details of the investigation, but not necessarily an explanation of the concerns. Did you notification (email or letter) indicate any possibility of appeal?

How long did it take them to get to this point? Some people literally wait years before they get cleared (or discontinued) due to foreign associations/living overseas/etc

Thank you for your feedback. The discontinuation letter just said my foreign national associations precluded my assignment to the position originally offered to me.

From the offer letter in July to the discontiuation at the end of September, it would make it 3 months from the time i submitted my SF-86. I guess it was speedy but not a positive outcome.

I’d follow the previous offered guidance and request info on it. Depends what the foreign association is and what you indicated. If you have a case, fight it. If not, letting it go sounds like giving up because of something in your background.

Requesting your investigation is not going to tell you anything. That does not give reasons for decisions. It only shows you information that was developed about you but if you listed your foreign contacts then you are already aware of this information. It won’t tell you anything new. You can’t request your adjudication because it did not make it that far, it was discontinued prior to the adjudication stage. The only way you’re going to get information is from the company who decided to discontinue you.

Agreed. Not sure if you were applying for a govvy or contractor job but contractors are often told (by the govt) they cannot fill positions with individuals who have close foreign contacts.

Thank you all for the information.
To answer your question, I was being considered for a govvy position.
I don’t know if this decision can be appealed.

Sounds like it was for an SCI position. The owner of said material gets a bigger say in who moves forward. Dont be discouraged in aplying for other cleared positions. This isnt a negative, it wasnt a failure. I would disclose it moving forward just for “open” book disclosure.
