I was asked to come onsite for a security interview next week. Did poly/psych in October 2022. So I’m pretty sure its adjudication. Is it normal to be called onsite for a security interview?
What level of clearance are you getting? Secret, Top Secret? Have you all ready had an investigation interview? What were you told the interview was for?
Some people do get called in for an interview to provide additional information. While it does not happen in most cases, it is not extremely unusual. At least it shows your case is active and not languishing in the digital equivalent of a dusty old filing cabinet.
For sure. I was guessing that my file was already sent to adjudication but when I got the call and they told me that I will have to come in for a security interview, that definitely confirmed that I was in adjudication. That’s why I was wondering what they do. I heard and read that they normally just want to fill in some gaps from the SF86 that they might have.
TS/SCI. Already did my investigation interview in December 2022. I was told the interview is a security interview, no further details. They will fly me in to come to the interview.
I don’t know, you are over my head on this one. I don’t know how the adjudication process works as my involvement stops with investigation. We don’t fly subjects anywhere for investigation so I don’t know. Keep us updated.
Adjudicators don’t conduct interviews. They review reports from the investigation and submit letters to the security office staff if additional information is needed. If you’ve been asked to participate in an interview after your investigation took place, it’s to obtain additional information due to an unresolved issue. Usually such interviews are conducted by an investigation service provider who would be in touch to schedule an interview for the specific reason. The security office staff could be asked to obtain details from you and they would present you with a letter from the adjudicator that states specifically what information is need.
I was called onsite at the agency for the interview and he said on the phone for a “security interview”.
I would think that if they were going to ask the investigator team, they would have kicked the question back to DCSA to ask me but they told me to come onsite, I’m being flown in next week.
I’m an investigator. We don’t fly subjects anywhere for investigations so it is not for the investigation. If we need more information for the investigation we send an investigator that is local wherever you are. I have not heard of a subject having an adjudication interview but there may be things that happen in adjudication that I don’t know about. The fact that you are being flown out to be on sight makes me think this may be part of your on-boarding with the agency that is done with the agency security department hence the “security” interview.
Sounds more like an indoctrination/briefing than anything else.
I have heard that as well because generally either the same DCSA who interviewed me back in October would contact me again for more info OR a new investigator would be assigned to question me further for clarifications OR I think adjudication would reach out via email/mail with questions. I have been in adjudication for about 4 months I believe.
But my question is why didn’t they tell me if I was cleared and needed to do a security interview as part of onboarding?
All I was told was that “we will be flying you in for your security interview”. i asked what is it about, and he said “I cannot tell you”
So paying the money just to have someone fly in (hotel and all)for 1 day just to ask a few questions seems strange
Med/Poly/Psych - Oct 2022
BI Interview with DCSA (1 long interview and a second one for 15 minutes) - Nov 2022
All references and neighbors contacted - Nov 2022
After Nov, it was radio silence until i got the call last week.
If it is agency specific like I suspect (onboarding with the agency security department) no one here will be able to answer any questions as we are not associated with your agency.
What does an indoctrination/briefing mean?
Security interviews are not uncommon. It is like a last step before an adjudicator makes a decision. It is usually because there is some unresolved issue that they need clarification on in order to adjudicate.
The indoctrination/briefing is typically for the SCI part of your TS-SCI clearance. You get read into a bunch of stuff and sign some extra paperwork for it. It’s a normal part of the process.
I get that part. I was more curious about them spending over $600 to fly me in if they needed clarification v/s calling me or mailing me something
But I’ll go with the flow and see what that security interview is about I guess. I was not told over the phone that i was cleared; i was just told that “we need to schedule your security interview”
Even before a firm offer, I get read into SCI?
You are not cleared. This is still a part of the process so that you can be cleared. If it’s something simple they will usually call or send mail. Normally if it’s something a little more complicated then they bring you in. Doesn’t mean it’s something bad, but they may just need more in depth information than they could get from a phone call.
Well then it must be something really complex that they need, since they didn’t call or mail me but paying big $$ to fly me in person for a 1 day security interview
Never underestimate the capability of a government agency to waste money. I predict you’ll walk out of there wondering why they made such a big deal out of it.
