Extended family disclosure

One of my troops recently had a baby by a guy who is not in the child’s life. They have little to no communication. She is due for her reinvestigation and is worried that she will have to mention him on SF86. She doesn’t want anything “questionable” in the father’s life to effect her clearance.

He’s an American citizen and no foreign ties that she knows of. Does she have to mention the child’s father on the document. Also during the investigation if the investigator asks her about him, is it fair to say hes not in his life so there’s no mention.

The SF-86 asks for current or former spouses and/or current cohabitants. If she never married the father and they no longer cohabitate then it is not required to list him. A simple explanation of these facts during the security interview should be sufficient if it comes up.
