IC Hiring Freeze and Buyout Offers 2025

I am honestly thinking of just turning down my Meade gig at this point. I am on a good paying contract now, but with everything happening I don’t want to move across the country just to be fired.

Yeah I feel that. Im banking on that clearance being what keeps me afloat over here if I have to look for another job. But who knows, wouldnt be surprised if contracts start drying up too. Total shitshow.

Some contracts maybe, but IC work is pretty important stuff. They shouldn’t be firing analysts and things like that, especially with other big countries improving at such a rapid pace.

So do you think it’s primarily the DEIA people the NYT article is referring to? I remember a fired data scientist being quoted in an earlier piece so it’s probably broader than just recruiters. I’m trying to put everything I’ve heard so far in some kind of a timeline but it just does not make sense. They clearly keep hiring and clearing people and getting rid of others at the same time.

Also, assume my EOD date never comes and I don’t get hired. What happens with my clearance?

oh I have no idea, I havent heard anything about the new firings, nobody seems to know anything in my orbit. I have to find out through the damn news, apparently. I have read some articles that say it was also some new analysts and what sounds like DO officers. But no way to confirm that. Doesnt seem to be any real rhyme or reason for any of this.

They are definitely still hiring and doing the onboarding. I’m pretty sure you have to EOD to officially gain your clearance, but I cant really speak to that. Thats only what I have read and heard.

You already have a clearance with your current job, right?

No I don’t. The work I do does not require it.

Oh man - they were gonna make you go to Meade? I’ve been holding out hope for an offer here locally, but it looks like that’s probably not gonna happen (considering everything).

Not sure if it’s just on my end - but all of the job openings that https://apply.intelligencecareers.gov/ had up have been pulled. :upside_down_face:

Yeah if it were me, I would stay with the known quantity. If you have good contacts and a good rep where you are, that could be the difference that saves you.

My stuff is still processing and I called yesterday and got confirmation for start date in later in the year. Crossing fingers it’s not rescinded

Can confirm that MD agency is now in a hiring freeze. CJOs and FJOs are paused until further notice, with some positions exempted. No guidance on which positions are exempted, though.

Confirming this as well. Hoping to start some on 3/24, but no guarantees

They were not. One of the other locations, just that agency

How did you here this today?

So apparently I survived the probationary terminations. Received an email stating that they evaluated probationary officers that were under 2 years of service and that I was not designated for separation. I think they might be evaluating the 3-4 year probationary officers now, thats the rumor at least.

Congrats on surviving! It makes me curious how they are determining who survived or not. I assume all “DEI” were blanket terminated, and perhaps they let go of the rest actually based on performance as it should be rather than what other agencies have been doing.

Thanks! I live to fight another day. I would like to know too, I believe it was at least somewhat performance based. Myself and others in my position probably survived because we havent had any evaluations yet. So if I had to guess, mission needs with priorities changing (like less focus on certain countries), and performance. Some combo of that. Just a total guess though.

Im still miffed on the DEI terminations. Just move them around, people at my agency are incredibly smart/talented. Surely they could have been reassigned.

So good to hear! It feels weird to say congratulations on not getting fired but I’m really happy for you! Please keep us posted as you are able.

4 years is such a crazy amount of time, but I’m glad to hear you made it through! Hopefully this is it and there is no further firings.
