I received an internship with a Federal LE agency, filled out the SF86 for TS/poly at the end of August 2024, did interview and poly in Sept/Oct.
The only red flag I have (I’m delightfully boring) is a mental health history, the worst of which dates back well over a decade, but was in scope. It was due to misdiagnosis and medication that I complied with but made everything tremendously worse. Anyway, delays with an uncooperative mental health provider I had been seeing from the worst of that through the first 3 years of the 7 years they wanted forms from was an issue, but so was administration change and the internship being frozen for about 6 weeks. Between these two things, I did not make the cut-off for having the security clearance adjudicated in time to begin the internship next month.
Oddly, the website for the agency says that the investigation is still in process, with no change since the end of October 2024. I understand from doing some research that they may not place it on hold and could continue and grant (or deny) the clearance, so that isn’t a question. I have two questions, however.
- I’ve moved and since I didn’t make the cutoff, I have no idea who I even need to reach out to. Would it be the HR rep at the agency that I worked with to get everything scheduled last year?
- Is it wise to fill out job applications for potentially cleared work while this process is still listed as ongoing? If so, what do I report as my clearance status?
