Looking for advice

So I’m now 34. Back in back in 2006 I got a DUI on base…I don’t learn my lesson and I got another one 2007 out in town. I have done all the classes required and moved forward on with life. I got a family and I don’t think the same way or do the same things. I currently got a clearance but I want to upgrade to an TS for a better paying job. Is this even possible?. Am I waisting my time with trying. I will had to fight like hell for my current clearance before it was granted with an warning. What would you do if you were in my shoes.

Two DUIs in about a year’s time may be significant, but the passage of 13 years since then is more significant… in my humble opinion. I suspect the investigator will still want all the details but it could be so far in the past that it is a non-issue.

When did you get the secret clearance? Closer to the time of the last DUI?

no waited about 6 years after the last DUI. I’m coming up on my renewal next year. I got my clearance back in 2011.

I’ve successfully submitted 3 or 4 folks with 2 DUIs. All cleared. Time is a great mitigator. Provided all other aspects of your life are in good standing, you will clear.

The fact that you have been cleaned in the last 13 yrs is a great mitigation factor. You are now 34, so if i am doing the math correctly you were 20 and 21 when the DUI happened, and you have moved on and improved since then. If i was an investigator i would think at the age of 20’, people tend to do stupid ■■■■, but how lessons learned and how a person corrected the issue are more important than the past. Moreover, a TS does not necessary mean you will get a higher salary…i know for fact because i am a DOD contractor.

I’ve had renewal cases with five and six DUIs spanning a 30 year period. Time, without repeated behavior is the best mitigator.
