Looking for help in understanding my Security Clearance is still valid?

I renewed my Security Clearance in February 2018 and was laid off in September 2018. I started a new job in November of 2018 and the company I am working for promised to carry over my security clearance before I accepted the job.

After I was hired I kept asking if they took over my clearance and did not get an answer.
Finally they told me they were not going to take it over. I protested and showed them the email I had from their HR saying she spoke to the Security person and confirmed they would carry it over. They put me part time on a project that required a clearance.

Now I was asked to stop working on the project that required clearance and it happens to be in coincidence with the 2 years after my security clearance was renewed (Feb 2018 - Feb 2020) As I understand a security Clearance is good for two years after it was issued.

I believe they only intended to extend it and not actually take it over. Now I believe I am going to lose it because they mislead me.

Here are my questions:

  1. Can I pay for my security clearance myself to keep it going?
  2. If I took another job what would the process be to get my security clearance again? Is it any easier since I was recently went through the process?
  3. Do I have any recourse against the company for basically misleading me?

Any help would be appreciated.

  1. No.
  2. Before November, another company should be able to take control of your clearance.
  3. Probably not.

Number 3 is only an opinion.

Hi Ed,
Thank you for your answer. I was wondering what the significance to “November” in your bullet #2?
Thanks

That would be two years that you did not hold a cleared position.
