Why let agency fire you vs resignation?

In some cases where you believe you werenā€™t at fault for that dismissal, you will have appeal rights (MSPB, EEO, Arbitrations). Once your case is decided, you might get your job back plus back pay. Now if you resigned, you will lose all appeal rights. Furthermore, your SF50 will illustrate you had resigned in lieu of termination, which is just as bad. Think of it as going to court. The prosecutor offers you a plea bargain if you plead guilty. You canā€™t appeal that bargain once you accepted it. Iā€™m sure there are rare circumstances where you can say you were tricked into resigning, but those are not the norm.

I agree with this point. I will add thatā€¦ even if you ā€œvoluntarilyā€ resign due to working environment or such (constructive discharge), you still retain the appeal/complaint rights.
