I currently work for an US based defense contractor and I was recently offered a remote job for the US branch of a Canadian company. My current company has okayed working two jobs (I’ve always worked for two defense contractors) but what steps do I need to take to ensure I’m not crossing a security clearance line (active: TS//SCI)?
Arguably working this remote role wouldn’t be much different than accepting a role with BAE Systems.
My understanding is: The clearance itself does not prohibit you from working for more than 1 company/agency at a time (as long as you disclose it). However, your employer/agency/unit might. Did you sign a non-compete?
You should ask your manager and HR dept. They will tell you what you’re allowed to do.
Hello! Company A is okay with Company B. But Company B is the US branch of a Canadian company. If I worked Job B, I would need to start reporting foreign relationships (as my new coworkers would be Canadian), foreign travel (for the job), etc.
Is there anyway to clear this with DCSA before accepting the role?
As for my manager/HR, they have okayed me working for a 2nd job. My security manager gave me a “its doable but requires a lot of continous paperwork” sort of answer.
No idea if you can get ahead of it. Your CSO should be able to answer that. At the very least, you will need to self-report as incidents occur.
Thanks for the input!
I’ll try to update in a month.
Just be sure to read and understand the instructions/requirements. “Close and ongoing contact”
As long as it is indeed the US branch. There are a few major defense contractors that are “xyz Systems USA.” Otherwise the company itself is a “non US person” and would need to be reported as a foreign contact.
I think…
