Hi everyone,
I’m reaching out for some advice and to share my situation in case others have experienced something similar.
I applied for a DoD TS clearance in May 2023. Everything was proceeding normally for the first few months, I completed my SF-86, went through the initial interviews, and was awaiting further steps. However, at some point, the agent handling my case left their role, and unfortunately, my documents (including my SSN and other sensitive information) were lost in the transition
I was later contacted by a new investigator and went through the exact same interview process again. Around that time, I also received an official letter/email acknowledging the loss of my personal information and advising me to monitor for possible misuse.
As of today, it’s been over 24 months since the original submission, and my company’s FSO and HR have followed up multiple times with no response from the clearance authorities. I have not received a formal denial or revocation notice, just complete silence.
After chatting with gpt and according to its advice, I’m now planning to,
- Email DCSA’s askVROC to formally request a status update.
- File a FOIA request to obtain any existing records about my case.
But before I proceed, I wanted to ask:
- Has anyone been in a similar situation involving record loss or total lack of response?
- Did filing FOIA or contacting askVROC actually move things forward for you?
- Is there any further channel (like OMBUDSMAN, IG, or congressional assistance) that might help in cases like this?
Really appreciate any guidance or stories you might be willing to share. Thank you in advance!
