1099ers workload

FT with CACI Inc, case assignments have been horrible since late September. We were placed on performance based assignments 10/1 based on four tiers. Lower performers in lower tiers. I have not received any cases since September. But DHS has plenty of work, if you’re lucky to get on the DHS contract.

I’ve been texting an FI that got furloughed and he said it’s been frustrating, he hasn’t got much info other then being told to be patient.

I had asked a higher up at one of the subs (“work” for three) if we would have, like, 9 months of work, then none for FY 2026. No answer. I’ve had two TESI’s since mid-September. I guess I’ll see what’s in store for ICE, as much as it sickens me.

Otherwise, starting a job in the non-profit world in mid-December, and will keep DoorDashing because as it turns out, I enjoy paying my mortgage but am single and also not independently wealthy.

Best of luck with the non-profit. A stable future in this business isn’t looking good.

Anyone know if any of the companies are using a similar process for assigning work to 1099’s? Seems like some are getting some work and others are getting none.

The company I work with is only assigning work to high performers. The performance is based on quality, timeliness and responsiveness.

It certainly feels like this. All vendors keep track of IC’s metrics even though they don’t tell us. I’m certain they provide work to IC’s that have better quality and timeliness than others. Or IC’s they like better or who engage more than others such as brown nosing.

Good news is they haven’t asked for our equipment back…..yet….. Hoping they don’t but what else is there?

Probably varies from prime to prime, sub to sub. I was getting a reduced amount of work up until last week. Went to zero last week and this week and this was right after I got an RZ so was wondering if I had slipped to a lower tier that doesn’t rate any work. Maybe just a coincidence. Not desperate enough to resort to brown nosing.

And as always, the silence from leadership is deafening…

yeah this is beyond ridiculous. how can they have NO updates and NO projections on when work will get to us?

Perhaps it’s that bad and they just don’t want to spread fear and anxiety down the chain. Not something you want to think about, but maybe it’s the truth.

All of govt contracting company is in survival mode. I’m affiliated with several contracting companies and 2 fed agency….they are all on eggshells. Over 300k left federal workforce this year, and 68k fed jobs created. Federal contracting is crushed if federal hiring is limited to DHS and military.

I thought the exact thing–ridiculous! I was thinking maybe 1099 admin is waiting until all cases close before they come out of their turtle shell and tell us what’s happening so they don’t get stuck with reopens in case people jump ship. This random, paranoid guess at what’s going on is 25 + years in this business which translates to extreme paranoia and employment related PTSD. Disclaimer-I do know at least 1 other long timer who’s more paranoid than me and our conversations make me feel much better about myself

my boss told me a couple weeks ago that she hoped things would start picking up again after Thanksgiving week…so here we are.

I heard the same thing today. Wonder why that’s the benchmark.

I feel like they keep moving goalposts on when work will pick up. I remember at the end of August I was told it would pick back up in October. Then we had a regional call a couple weeks ago and the sense I got was that it would pick back up in the new year, I have my doubts tho.
