I’ve only had a few cases since August/September and because of that I noticed that I don’t want to work here anymore
which seems to be fine since there is no work other than telephone employments and other ridiculous items.
I’m new here, but hello everyone! I have contracts with many of the vendors as well. But my primary contract is a sub for CACI. I’m getting some work, but the issue now is that there’s consistent payroll issues when it comes to getting paid for work submitted. We changed from picking our own work until the end of August. Then there was “no work”. & starting in November, there’s been “payroll” issues ever since. We went from being paid weekly to them changing to bi-weekly pay. & now the bi-weekly pay is late lol. When I tell you this situation has completely ruined my credit and finances!!
FT Investigators at CACI are not getting any work , either. Since October it has been about 10% from the normal workload. We are hearing its the new production based environment, the government shutdown, the holidays, stuff going on at DCSA… but just unofficial rumors. No one in management is telling anyone anything.
Seriously, what is going on at this point? How long do we give it until workload picks up? Is anyone else hearing anything besides the same reasons (gov shutdown, budget renewals, holidays, etc.)?? I was worried prior to and over the holidays just because it’s “usually slow” that time of year but now and especially by the end of these next few months, if things don’t pick up, what in the world is it that’s happening? Has anyone had any luck applying to other jobs within our field with some sort of stability? Not sure how much longer us that use this as a primary income can last…
The lack of transparency from the higher ups is very concerning. They can no longer use the “government shutdown” narrative as they reopened almost 2 months ago. I’ve been without work for almost 3 months and every time I ask it’s the same response “there’s no work”. Well who the heck is getting it then because we all know there is some work out there. I fell into a deep depression last night as I’m older now and have been doing this job for almost 24 years and was hoping to retire doing this job. The thought of having to figure out a whole new career until I can retire in about 5 years is frightening.
I told one of my CL’s I only want work if I can be at my previous level, because I cannot work my underemployment FT job and do this one. And if I need to turn in my crap, so be it. My original sub just keeps thanking us for our patience and professionalism. And the one I work primarily DHS gaslit me in an email reply.
I made an average of $415 a week from September to December.
I’ll keep my stuff as long as I can, but I won’t despair if and when they make me turn it in.
Isn’t the reason for the slowdown of work, the fact that the government and contractors aren’t hiring and large percentages of government and contractor workers were laid off or retired over the last year? It seems pretty obvious, but perhaps I’m missing something.
With respect, that comment was completely unnecessary and unprofessional.
Deleted. But the point stands, there’s no communication why there is a hiring binge with no/little investigative activity.
Thank you for deleting this post. Certainly understand your frustrations but that kind of post is very off point and unbecoming.
Thank you for sharing Disillusioned, heartfelt, open and honest. Wish our companies we sub for would do in kind. I too am older, this job was going to see me through my final years of work into retirement. I am scared for what is next. Starting a new career this late in the game is scary. I really enjoyed being a FI/CI and was proud of the work I turned in. If we were given a little information from the folks behind the curtain it would at least allow some of us to make a decision as to what direction we go next.
CI_Allcontracts, I’ve heard nothing from any of the three contracts I work for/with. I’ve sent a few emails of inquiry but get zero response. “No news is good news”, but not in this situation. I have not applied for any jobs because I am trying to holdout. I simply can’t imagine starting a new career at this stage (age) in life.
It does not bode well for that minor contracting company that is under the prime company. Payroll issues are hard to rebound from. When a company stops paying the people that generate revenue it speaks volumes of their stability. Slippery slope they are on.
I honesty think work could have never ramped up because agencies are holding on to their funding anticipating another possible shutdown 02/01. I work for a FT sub for CACI and work is steady, but we are scrapping the bottom of the barrel for sure.
I should rephrase that: steady, but still low.
Sq457, Are you able to make production requirements/metrics with the slow work? Or having to take any unpaid time off?
I have not made production for about 3 months. The highest has been around 78% production. We are not having to take unpaid time off as of yet, do you? If so, that’s terrible.
I am self-employed. Only get paid when work is completed/submitted. No work =no pay. Since September there has been little to no work in the pipeline for us 1099ers. Imagine the lead two contract companies are keeping the case work for their W2 employees. Have you or other higher level CI had to downgrade your level yet? I was wondering if the primes would start forcing employees to level down if they aren’t meeting production.
No one has had an involuntary drop in level that I am aware of. I don’t think they can. I would imagine there could be legal ramifications for them forcing you to take less pay due to workload issues because it’s not due to performance. I would imagine they would need to layoff. That’s just a guess though.
Your welcome RZ24HR. I believe they’re being silent because they don’t want us to go away just in case work does pick up. Even so, I wish they would just say it. I’m personally tired of begging and pleading for work to do when I know there is work out there…they’re just only giving it to whoever they want to.
