I think this came up on the old federal soup forums, where the agency told the applicant (who had already received a CJO and were going through processing) that they hire more people than they need and they fill the slot(s) with the first person (or people) to clear. Some of these folks reported being asked if they were interested in other positions.
TS/SCI with CI poly. I applied for the same position but at a GS-7, then GS-9
Applied 05/23
Interviewed: 08/2023
09/2023: COE for GS-7 intel role
10/2023: SF-86 submitted
12/2023: applied for GS-9 for same role
02/2024: contacted by BI, accepted new COE for GS-9, and continued processing for GS-9.
03/2024: BI reaches out for more info.
04/2024: Psych and CI poly. I was told to come back for a second try. second day was a single scope poly. Was told it was âunresolvedâ and was told âI wont give you another test I know you cannot pass.â
06/2024: I emailed the agency for an update and was told I was âpending the security process.â So I am thinking maybe I did not fail my poly since I am still processing.
That is good to hear. I wonder how often it actually happens though. I definitely understand it for entry level positions though when someone hasnât had a clearance before.
Yeah, would be curious to know as well. I donât think this particular agency has issues with budgets as much as say, the IRS right now. That agency is canceling CJOâs left and right. So I donât think positions closing without filling is a regular occurrence. But thatâs just a guess, obviously.
Jan 24 (having previously had one) I was put into the system for a TSSCI
Feb 24 received âPlease be advised you were granted an eligibility pending on 02/05/2024.â
May checked in to see if anything had happened⌠nothing⌠None of my friends report contact.
Itâs 18 June today. Looking at these others from last year suggests itâs going to be a minute. Iâd have thought some of my contacts would be contacted by now. Nothing.
Was this for an interim clearance? Some situations will not accept an interim and the individual has to wait for the final clearance. Or possibly an interim for some level of access less than the full TS/SCI
SF86 submitted End of Nov 2023

Has been 217 days. About 4 months in adjudication. Recent grad. Need a job badly. This process is a nightmare. Student Loans start back up in Nov. Hoping something happens. Job searching is a nightmare.
@enginerd Typical. In case no one has told you yet, you should continue looking for other jobs while you wait. As you can see, it takes a looonnng time.

5/15/2024 - Security Interview
5/16/2024 - Scheduled Poly/Psych for July
Update:
7/23/24 - Passed Poly/Psych : )
I guess Iâm just waiting from this point, should I email the org. just to ask for clarification on where I am? Itâs shocking how little information you really get given at any point in this process haha.
What happened on 4/24/24 that makes you say your investigation started? Usually folks think their investigation starts when they have their interview with an investigator, even though technically it has already started by that point.
I doubt youâll get much more info at this point; next step is for security to tell HR youâre cleared, and then HR takes a couple weeks to put everything together before contacting you to set up a start date.
If you look around this site youâll see your process is moving faster than most!
I got an email on that day saying that my security forms had been approved, and that they were being reviewed to âdetermine the next step in your processing.â Of course, I donât know exactly what was going on behind the scenes, but this was the only update I got before the investigator contacted me directly.
Assuming we have the same agency, how do you know you passed your psych and poly? I have mine coming up relatively soon, and am just curious on how they let you know
Interestingly enough, the examiner had me switch to nonverbal answers this time around. So I had to nod yes or no, I found that much better for some reason.
@reynoldslb Iâm not the person you are asking, but I was told after the exam that I passed. I was told I showed some responses but they were not above some certain threshold. For psych, the Dr after the interview told me donât worry, you are not failing. So I assume I passed that, who knows for real though.
When talking after my poly, the examiner informed me that the next step was waiting for adjudication on my case. If I had not passed the polygraph, I wouldâve been rescheduled and told that I had not passed.
In terms of psych, similarly to @RandomMan , the Dr. indicated that I did not have any problematic markers, but didnât necessarily say âyou passed.â
TS SCI
Submitted SF86 early January 2024
completed polygraph late February
Friends and neighbors all called and talked to February and March
I interviewed with security shortly after
Have not heard anything since
Were you out of state? If so, how did your travel work out for poly/psych? I just got my email to schedule, but it didnât really mention how travel was booked, just that it was covered. My recruiter is already out for the weekend.
